Gustave Eiffel's Proudest Moment?

Friday, April 16, 2004

Today's main event was the Eiffel Tower (La Tour Eiffel, as it's known here). And an event it was indeed, consuming no less than three and a half hours (tell you why later). Several times during the day I found myself repeatedly humming a line from a famous tune: "...a three hour tour...a three hour tour..." You remember Gilligan's Island, don't you?

It was all well worth it, I can assure you, and I have over 250 photos to prove it. I was into my second set of batteries by the time it was all over.

I'll share more details with you later, probably tomorrow evening. For now, just take a gander at my first, goose-pimple-producing glimpse of the famous edifice I'd heard of, read about, seen on film and never really thought I'd see in the flesh (er, iron).

I just came around the corner, and there it was, this massive...thing...that photos can never really convey the scale of. You simply have to be there to understand that it is HUGE.

Once I got to the top, the view was spectacular, as you might imagine. I'll leave you for now with a view of the Seine from on high, with some guy in glasses standing in the way.

More later. Meanwhile, you can examine the archives, in case there's something you missed.

TTYL.
